The massive mountain range of the Dolomites, or “Pale Mountains”, in the Italian Alps, stretches northeastwards from Trentino-Alto Adige to Veneto to Friuli Venezia Giulia. Named after the French geologist Déodat de Dolomieu (1760-1801), who first described the dolomite mineral in its rocks, the Dolomites are a treasure trove not only for mountain biking, skiing, or trekking but also for their culinary offer, rich culture and tradition. Since 2009, their pristine beauty, along with the wildlife, has also been declared a UNESCO-World Heritage Site.
